FROM YOUR INTERIM PASTOR During the few months I have been privileged to share with you I have been impressed with the congregation at Victory in a number of ways. One great impression is the amount of talent in the church body. And not only is there great talent, but there is also a willingness to share one’s gifts in the ministry of the church. Looking to the future I do hope such sharing will continue and that you will resist the temptation, after a pastor is called, to say “I’ll let him do the work now!” Instead, be willing to continue to share your talents and gifts. Bless others and you will discover blessings in return. We have not had the best of weather thus far in January on Sunday mornings yet we have been blessed with new additions to the congregation including a profession of faith and a request for baptism. That is exciting and we ought to be very thankful for God’s working in our lives. Be in prayer for Joe Ragland and Kim Whitehead as they assume responsibilities for Interim Worship Leader and pianist. They will “officially” begin the first Sunday in February though we have already been blessed by their leadership in the worship services. And also we need to give a big thank you for the others who have helped organize and lead the worship services during the past month. I look forward to sharing worship with you. |

STUDENT MINISTRY (grades 6-12) ApParent Privilege What comes to mind when your hear the words “epic fail?” What often comes to my mind is the retention rate of our student ministries. Over 2/3 of students who grow up in the church walk away from their faith by the time they graduate. Steve Wright has been a youth pastor for over 20 years. He is very passionate about correcting this dropout epidemic. Steve has authored such books as reThink: Decide for Yourself, Is Student Ministry Working?, and his recent release, ApParent Privilege. In this book he challenges parents to recognize the God-given responsibility to disciple their children through encouragement and inspiration, while equipping parents with the resources to do just that. On Saturday, March 6, from 9am-noon, Steve Wright will be conducting a parent conference here in Lexington at Gardenside Baptist Church. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend. The cost for the conference is $20 per person, or $25 per couple, if registered by February 26. The goal of this conference is to encourage and better equip parents to get more involved spiritually with their teenagers. Parents interested in attending can sign up in Victory Central or see Patrick Smith with any further questions. Student Ministry Newsletter Starting this month Patrick will e-mail a special student ministry newsletter to parents of 6th–12th grade students. If you have not received any parent emails thus far, please be sure to give Patrick your current contact information. |

New to the Victory website: In serving to “lead all people to know and treasure Jesus above all things,” Victory has partnered with church planters locally, nationally, and internationally. The Glocal Impact Missions team wants to keep everyone informed on the great work God is doing through our partners. We would also like to provide Victory with the opportunity to be involved in these ministries through prayer. To make the prayer requests and praises easily available, a web page has been added to Victory’s website. Praying in the harvest, |
